RMS Publishing

The publishing process allows specific users to consume a specific piece of content in a specific manner. The RMS publishing service binds rights-protected content to a publishing license. Publishing licenses define the policy under which use licenses may be delivered. Use licenses, which are issued by the RMS licensing service, define the rights that a particular user has to consume a piece of rights-protected content.
The author of rights-protected content specifies the rights that apply to that content through a user interface that is supplied by the RMS-enabled application. The author typically selects a rights policy template, and then specifies the recipient or recipients of the content and their rights. Rights policy templates are created by RMS administrators and are made available from a RMS cluster.
In most scenarios, use licenses are issued by the same RMS cluster that issued the publishing licenses. When this is not possible, you can create a trusted publishing domain to allow one cluster to issue a use license against a publishing license from another cluster. You can also create a trusted user domain so that use license requests from users who are in a different Active Directory forest, either in your enterprise or in a different one, may be processed.
