RMS Administration Web Site

Each root and licensing-only cluster hosts an Administration Web site that you can use to manage RMS. This Web site is available only on the RMS server that you are administering or through a Remote Desktop connection.

This topic describes Administration Web site capabilities. Instructions for using the Web site to administer RMS are provided in "RMS How to..." and "Managing RMS" in "RMS: Operations" in this documentation collection.

Note

Cluster configuration is global. You can manage configuration for a cluster from the Administration Web site on any server that is in the cluster.

Open the Global Administration page to do the following tasks:

  • Provision RMS on a Web site.

  • Provision a server and add it to a cluster.

  • Remove RMS from a Web site.

  • Go to the administration pages for the cluster.

Open the Administration page for a cluster to do the following tasks:

  • View cluster information. You can view information about the cluster, such as installation URL, server URL, certificate name, configuration database server, configuration database name, and certificate expiration date.

  • Enroll or Renew the server licensor certificate. You can enroll or renew the server licensor certificate for the cluster.

  • Establish trust policies. Click the link to open the Trust policies Web page from which you can add or remove trusted user domains and trusted publishing domains. Add or remove users from the exclusion list that is in a trusted user domain. Export your server licensor certificate to a file for import by another RMS installation.

  • Configure rights policy templates. Click the link to open the Rights policies templates Web page from which you can create and modify rights policy templates for the enterprise.

  • Configure logging. Click the link to open the Logging settings Web page from which you can turn on and off logging, and then view the logging server and database.

  • Specify the extranet cluster URL. Click the link to open the extranet cluster URL settings Web page from which you can specify the URL to be used to gain access to the root cluster's certification services from the extranet.

  • Specify RMS proxy settings. Click the link to open the RMS Proxy Settings Web page from which you can specify the address of the proxy server, the authentication type, and the user name to be used when the RMS server needs to connect to the Internet through a proxy server.

  • Track the number of rights account certificates distributed. Click the link to open the rights account certificate tracking Web page from which you can see how many rights account certificates your root cluster has distributed, which can be used to estimate the number of client access licenses that you require.

  • Manage security settings. Click the link to open the Security settings Web page from which you can add and remove members of the super users group who have full control over all licensed content, as well as reset the private key password.

  • View and configure account certificate settings. Click the link to open the Certification settings Web page from which you can specify the duration of certificate validity, as well as specify an administrator contact.

  • Enable exclusion policies. Click the link to open the Exclusion policies Web page from which you can enable exclusion policies that are based on lockbox versions, Windows version, account certificates, and applications.

  • Register the service connection point. Click the link to open the Service Connection Point Web page from which you can register and unregister the service connection point for your cluster.

Administrators can perform other tasks, including monitoring events and managing Active Directory, Internet Information Services (IIS), and SQL Server, by using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
