Planning the Test Lab

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

A test lab is a network that is designed for testing and that is isolated from the corporate network. In the test lab, you can verify that components and features work together in an integrated environment that simulates your target production environment. The simulated environment should reflect both the phase-in period, when you have a mix of functionality, and the end of the project, when you have completely implemented Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional.

Begin the lab planning process by evaluating test lab models, and then select the appropriate site for your lab.

Figure 2.4 illustrates the activities you undertake when planning the test lab.
