A Test Message Cannot Be Sent to a Particular Queue

This problem typically occurs when attempting to send a test message from Computer Management or Active Directory Users and Computers. You are unable to send a test message to a Message Queuing queue from Computer Management or Active Directory Users and Computers unless the target queue has the appropriate queue type ID.

Diagnosis

When you attempt to send a test message from Computer Management or Active Directory Users and Computers, only queues with a type ID of {55EE8F33-CCE9-11CF-B108-0020AFD61CE9} are available in the Destination queue edit box displayed in the Sending Test Messages from<computer name> dialog box.

Resolution

Follow either of the steps below to create a queue with the appropriate type ID so that the queue will be available in the Destination queue edit box displayed in the Sending Test Messages from<computer name> dialog box.

To create a queue that will accept test messages

  • Use Computer Management or Active Directory Users and Computers to create a new non transactional public queue, set the type ID property of the queue to {55EE8F33-CCE9-11CF-B108-0020AFD61CE9}.

  • Click New Queue from the Sending Test Messages from<computer name> dialog box and enter the full path for the new queue. Test queues that are created from the New Queue Path Name dialog box will automatically have the appropriate type ID set.

Verification

Use Computer Management or Active Directory Users and Computers to send a test message, the new queue should be available in the Destination queue edit box displayed in the Sending Test Messages from<computer name> dialog box.
