Configure Transaction Services for Network Clients

It is possible to configure Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) so that it can service remote clients, but with this ability comes a possible security risk. By default, this feature is turned off.

For Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, you can use the following procedure to enable MS DTC to service remote clients.

To enable servicing of remote clients

  1. Open the Component Services snap-in.

    To open Component Services, click Start. In the search box, type dcomcnfg, and then press ENTER.

  2. Expand the console tree locate the DTC (such as Local DTC) for which you want to enable Network DTC Access.

  3. On the Action menu, click Properties.

  4. Click the Security tab.

  5. Select the Network DTC Access check box, and then select the Allow Remote Clients check box.

  6. Click OK.
