Fix network conditions causing poor playback

To resolve this error, restart the Windows Media Center PC, reconnect your Windows Media Center Extender, and then try to play the media content again. If this fails, verify firewall settings and run the Network Performance Tuner.

To verify firewall settings:

For information about how to set up a firewall to work with Windows Media Center, see Firewalls and Media Center Extender on the Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=94581).

To run the Network Performance Tuner:

  1. Ensure your Media Center Extender has been successfully partnered to your PC running Windows Media Center.
  2. On the Media Center Extender, make sure the Windows Media Center Start menu is visible.
  3. Select Task, and then Tune Network.
  4. To accurately measure your network performance, make sure no media playback occurs on the Media Center Extender while the Network Performance Tuner is in use.

Note: For best results, turn off your Media Center Extender and restart it before running the Network Performance Tuner so that all Media Center Extender resources are cleared.

For information about troubleshooting wireless home networks, see Wireless Home Networking Basics for Windows Media Center Extenders on the Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=73565).

TV playback on the Extender is high quality, with no pauses.
