The Routing Table Manager (RTM) is the central repository for routing information for all routing protocols that operate under the Routing and Remote Access service and for components such as the IP Router Manager. RTM maintains a user-mode routing table for all routes from all possible route sources.

Resolve

Check TCP/IP settings or add a route to Routing Table Manager

Possible resolutions:

  • Check whether there are any communication problems due to incorrect TCP/IP settings. Using administrator credentials, run the ipconfig command in a command prompt to view the TCP/IP configuration information. If the TCP/IP configuration information is correct, then use the netstat -a command to show the status of all activity on TCP and UDP ports on the local computer.
  • Use the netsh routing ip add rtmroute command to add a route to the Routing Table Manager (RTM).

Verify

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the RTM route has been added:

  • Stop and restart the Routing and Remote Access service.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type rrasmgmt.msc, and then press ENTER.
    2. Open Routing and Remote Access.
    3. In the console tree, click Server Status.
    4. In the details pane, right-click a server name, point to All Tasks, and click Restart.
  • View the routing table. In the Routing and Remote Access snap-in, expand IPv4 or IPv6, right-click Static Routes, and then click Show IP Routing Table.
  • Verify that the route has been added.
