Event ID 82 — Print Migration Import or Export Status

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Print migration import or export status relates to importing and exporting print queues, printer settings, printer ports, and language monitors by using the Printer Migration Wizard or the Printbrm.exe command-line tool.

Event Details

Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 82
Source: Microsoft-Windows-PrintBRM
Version: 6.0
Symbolic Name: MSG_PRINTSHARE_ERROR
Message: Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) could not access the print$ share on %1. Error reported: %2. This can occur if the destination computer does not have any shared printers.

Resolve

Install the Print Services role or share a printer

To resolve this issue, perform one of the following two tasks to install the Print Services role or share a printer on the destination server:

  • On a computer running Windows Server 2008, open Server Manager and then use the Add Roles Wizard to install the Print Services role. This installs the Print Management snap-in and configures the server to be a print server.
  • On a computer running another version of Windows, open the Printers folder in Control Panel, and then use the Add Printers Wizard to add a printer, if necessary. Then share the printer on the network.

After resolving the problem, retry importing or exporting printers.

Verify

To verify that print migration is functioning properly, perform the following actions:

  • Try printing to each affected printer. All documents should print properly.
  • If the printers were not imported or exported successfully, retry importing or exporting the printers and then verify that the Printer Migration Wizard reports the following outcome: "The operation completed with no errors."
