Resolve

Resend all pending faxes

All incoming and outgoing faxes must be resent because the fax queues could not be restored. Before you resend the faxes, you should confirm that the Queue folder exists and has the correct permissions. For instructions, see "Confirm permissions for the Queue folder."

Specific instructions for resending a fax depend on the software used to send the fax. If the fax was sent using Windows Fax and Scan from a computer running Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate, or Windows Server 2008, follow the instructions in "Using Windows Fax and Scan." If another program was used, follow this instructions in "Using another program."

Confirm permissions for the Queue folder

To confirm the presence of the Queue folder and permissions:

  1. To open Windows Explorer, right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. In the left pane, click the disk that contains the operating system.
  3. On the toolbar, click Organize, click Folder and Search Options, click the View tab, and then click Show Hidden Files and Folders. Close the dialog box.
  4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to %systemdrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue.
  5. Right-click the Queue folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
  6. Verify that the folder has Write permissions for the Network Service account.

Using Windows Fax and Scan

To send a fax using Windows Fax and Scan:

  1. Click the Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.
  2. At the bottom of the left pane, click Fax.
  3. On the toolbar, click New Fax.
  4. Using the options provided in the New Fax window, create a new fax, and then click Send.

Using another program

To send a fax using another program:

To fax a document using a program other than Windows Fax and Scan, you need to "print" the document to a fax printer so it can be sent as an attachment to a fax. The attached file is automatically converted to a TIFF image (.tif file) so it can be received by any fax device. For information about using print options for a program, including selecting a printer, check the Help for the program. For most programs, you can take these steps:

  1. Open the document or file that you want to send as a fax.
  2. In the program that you are using, open the Print dialog box, typically located by clicking File, and then click Print.
  3. In the Print dialog box, look for the printer selection option, which is typically located under Printer or Select Printer.
  4. In the list of available printers, click Fax.
  5. Click Print. Windows Fax and Scan opens a new fax with your file attached.
  6. In the new fax, type recipient fax numbers and any other information that you want to provide, such as a subject or a cover page note, and then click Send.

Verify

To confirm that the fax queues are configured correctly, you should check that:

  1. The Queue folder exists and has the correct permissions.
