Event ID 32065 — Outgoing Routing Configuration

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use Outgoing Routing in Fax Service Manager to configure rules for outgoing faxes to optimize use of available fax devices. To do this, you create rules to associate a device or group of devices with faxes sent to a specific domestic area code or to a specific country/region.

For example, you can create a group for local destinations and another for domestic long distance destinations, or a group for a specific foreign destination. Using these rules helps you ensure that your fax devices are used efficiently and that outgoing faxes do not spend idle time in queues.

Resolve

Reinstall the Fax Server role

If the registry is corrupted, the fax server may not be able to read the configuration of the outgoing routing rules. Perform the following general steps until outgoing faxes are being routed correctly:

  1. Check the configuration of the outgoing routing rules and groups.
  2. Restart the Fax service.
  3. Reinstall the Fax Server role.

To install or configure fax components, you must be a member of the Administrators group or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

Check the configuration of the outgoing routing rules and groups

To check the configuration of the outgoing routing rule and groups:

  1. To open Fax Service Manager, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Fax Service Manager.
  2. In the left pane, double-click Fax, and then double-click Outgoing Routing.
  3. In the left pane, click Groups, and then in the right pane, review the items listed.
  4. In the left pane, click Rules, and then in the right pane, review the items listed.

Restart the Fax service

To restart the Fax service using Fax Service Manager:

  1. To open Fax Service Manager, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Fax Service Manager.
  2. In the right pane, right-click Fax, and then click Stop to stop the service.
  3. In the right pane, right-click Fax, and then click Start to restart the service.
  4. To ensure that the service is running, right-click Fax again and confirm that Start is grayed out and that Stop is active on the menu.

Reinstall the Fax Server role

To uninstall and reinstall the Fax Server role:

  1. Click Start, click Server Manager, in the left pane click Roles, and then in the right pane click Remove Roles.
  2. In the Add Roles Wizard, on the Select Server Roles page, clear the check box for Fax Server, and then follow the instructions in the wizard to uninstall the role.
  3. Then, to reinstall the role, in Server Manager, in the left pane click Role, and then in the right pane click Add Roles.
  4. In the Add Roles Wizard, on the Select Server Roles page, select the check box for Fax Server. When you do this, you will see a message that Print Services and Remote Server Administration Tools also need to be installed with the Fax Server role.
  5. Click Add Required Role Services and then click Next.
  6. On the Select Fax Users page, click Add and then type the domain and user name for groups and users that will have access to the fax server to send or receive faxes. Click Next. The Administrators group is added automatically to the Fax Users group and cannot be removed. In addition, if the Fax Users group already exists on the computer and is populated, those members will automatically appear under Fax Users or User Groups, but can be removed.
  7. On the Specify Who Can Access the Fax Server Inbox page, do one of the following and then click Next:
    • Click Only routing assistants can access the fax server inbox to limit access to the inbox to just members of the Routing Assistants user group. These users are responsible for routing faxes in the inbox to the intended recipients. You will specify group members later in the wizard.
    • Click All users can access the fax server inbox to give all users with access to the fax server the ability to view all received faxes. This option provides less privacy, but also requires less management.
  8. If you chose to limit access to the inbox to Routing Assistants, on the Select Routing Assistants page, click Add and then type the group name or domain and user name for groups and users who will be members of the Routing Assistants group. Click Next. As with the Fax Users group, the Administrators group is added automatically to the Routing Assistants group and cannot be removed. In addition, if the Routing Assistants group already exists on the computer and is populated, those members will automatically appear under Routing assistants, but can be removed.
  9. Continue through the wizard until you reach the Confirm Installation Selections page and review the choices that you made. Click Install.

Verify

To confirm that outgoing faxes are being routed correctly to recipients, you should confirm that you have created groups correctly and should verify the configuration of outgoing routing rules.

To install or configure fax components, you must be a member of the Administrators group or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that outgoing routing rules and groups are correctly set up:

  1. To open Fax Service Manager, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Fax Service Manager.
  2. In the left pane, double-click Fax, and then double-click Outgoing Routing.
