Track Message Queuing Performance Counters

Use this procedure to track Message Queuing performance counters.

You can use this procedure to track Message Queuing performance counters.

Membership in the local Users group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To track Message Queuing performance counters

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Reliability and Performance Monitor.

  2. Click to expand Monitoring Tools and then click Performance Monitor.

  3. In the details pane, click the Add (+) button on the toolbar.

  4. In the Add Counters dialog box, click the option for <Local computer> under Select counters from computer to view counters on the computer that you are using. Or, to view counters for another computer, click Browse and specify another computer under Select counters from computer.

  5. Click to expand the appropriate MSMQ performance object category, and then select one or more performance counters from the category. Press CTRL while clicking counters to select multiple counters simultaneously

Note

If you select multiple counters simultaneously you will not be able to select specific instances of the counter if that option is available for the counter. If you select multiple counters simultaneously, all instances of each selected counter will be monitored.

  1. To select specific instances of a counter, first select the performance counter and then select one or more instances of the performance counter object. Press CTRL while clicking the instances of the performance counter object to select multiple instances simultaneously. To select all instances of the performance counter object click <All instances>.

  2. Click Add.

  3. To view the definition of a counter, click to enable the Show description option, and then select a counter name. If the Show description option is enabled, the description for the selected counter is displayed under Description.

  4. Click OK.

    The monitor graphs appear in the details pane.

Additional considerations

  • To delete a counter from those tracked, in Performance Monitor, choose the required counter in the details pane, and then click the Delete (X) button on the toolbar.

  • You can view performance data from Performance Monitor in Chart, Report, or Histogram views, and you can log the performance data to a file.
