This topic describes how to configure the request consolidation feature in Application Request Routing (ARR). This feature supports live streaming content by consolidating requests and by checking cache-miss requests before forwarding requests to the origin server. You should be familiar with the disk-based cache feature in ARR before you continue.

Configure the Request Consolidation Feature in ARR

ARR uses the concept of request consolidation to reduce the number of requests when streaming live content. ARR checks cache-miss requests that are in transit before it forwards the requests to the origin server. This solution is effective in situations where you need to manage live streaming data but cannot use a cache proxy to cache content in advance.

By default, the request consolidation feature is disabled. You can configure this feature at the server level if ARR is being used as a server proxy, or you can configure it at the server farm level if the server farm feature is being used.

To configure the request consolidation feature

  1. Open IIS Manager.

  2. In the Connections pane, expand the server node and then expand the Server Farms node. Select your server farm.

  3. In the Server Farms pane, double-click Caching.

  4. On the Caching page, select the Enable request consolidation check box.

  5. Click Apply.
