Live Smooth Streaming Publishing Points Page

Use the Live Smooth Streaming Publishing Points feature page to view and manage publishing points for Live Smooth Streaming. You can sort the list of publishing points by clicking a column heading in Features View.

UI Element List

The following UI elements are available on the feature page and in the Actions pane.

Publishing Point Status

Element Name Description

File Name

Displays the name of the publishing point file (a file that has an .isml file name extension).

State

Displays the status of the publishing point's connection to a live source, such as an encoder or another Live Smooth Streaming publishing point. The following status values can be displayed:

  • Idle. The publishing point is not started.

  • Starting. The publishing point is enabled and is waiting to receive live streams from the live source. Publishing points in this state cannot accept requests for live streams.

  • Started. The publishing point is receiving live streams from the live source and can accept requests for live streams.

  • Stopping. The publishing point is stopping because the live source is not available. This occurs if the Live Smooth Streaming presentation ended or the connection between the live source and the publishing point was lost. This is a temporary condition that occurs just before the publishing point stops.

  • Stopped. The publishing point is stopped.

  • Error. The publishing point encountered an error and logged an event to Windows Event Viewer.

  • Shutting down. The publishing point is being shut down so that it cannot accept HTTP requests. This is a temporary condition that occurs just before the publishing point returns to the Idle state.

Archive

Displays the status of the live streams that are being archived. The following status values can be displayed:

  • Started. The publishing point is archiving live streams.

  • Stopped. Archiving of the live streams has stopped because the live source is not available.

  • Disabled. The Archive media option for the publishing point is disabled.

Client DVR

Displays the status of the live stream fragments that are being provided to clients. The following status values can be displayed:

  • Started. The publishing point is receiving live streams from the live source and can accept client requests for live streams.

  • Stopped. The publishing point is stopped because the live source is not available. This occurs if the Live Smooth Streaming presentation ended or the connection between the live source and the publishing point was lost. The publishing point can still deliver archived live streams if client DVR settings are enabled for the publishing point.

  • Disabled. The Allow client connections option for the publishing point is disabled.

Server Distribution

Displays the status of the live streams that are being distributed to publishing points on other Live Smooth Streaming servers. The following status values can be displayed:

  • Started. The publishing point is receiving live streams from the live source and can accept server requests for live streams.

  • Stopped. The publishing point is stopped because the live source is not available. This occurs if the Live Smooth Streaming presentation ended or the connection between the live source and the publishing point was lost. The publishing point cannot accept server requests for live streams.

  • Disabled. The Allow server connections option for the publishing point is disabled.

Publishing Point Summary

The Publishing Point Summary pane displays the following information about a publishing point that is selected in the Publishing Point Status pane:

  • Enabled Options. Displays the role options that are selected for the publishing point. Role options enable different outputs from the publishing point and are specified when you create it. (See Add/Edit Publishing Point Dialog Box.) At least one of the following values is displayed:

    • Apple HTTP Live Streaming. The Enable output to Apple mobile digital devices option is selected on the Mobile Devices tab of the dialog box.

    • Archiving. The Archive media option is selected on the Advanced Settings tab of the dialog box.

    • Client DVR. The Allow client connections option is selected on the Advanced Settings tab of the dialog box.

    • Server Distribution. The Allow server connections option is selected on the Advanced Settings tab of the dialog box.

If the selected publishing point is started, the following additional information is displayed:

  • Incoming Streams. Displays summary information about the live Smooth Streams that are received from all live sources (such as encoders or other Live Smooth Streaming publishing points) by the selected publishing point. This section displays the total number of streams that are being received and their overall status, such as the number of streams that are started, stopped, and so on. It also displays summary information about the tracks within all of the presentations that are received, such as the track type (for example, audio or video) and their encoded bit rates.

  • Archive Path. Displays the root directory where the live streams are saved as a Smooth Streaming presentation for later on-demand viewing. Archiving must be enabled for the publishing point so that it can archive live streams to the root directory. For more information, see Live Smooth Streaming Page.

Note

The Publishing Point Summary pane is only available in IIS Media Services 4.

Actions Pane Elements

Element Name Description

Add

Opens the Add Publishing Point dialog box, in which you can create and configure options for a new publishing point.

Delete

Removes the selected publishing point from the list and deletes the publishing point file (.isml) from the computer.

Edit

Opens the Edit Publishing Point dialog box so that you can change settings and options for the selected publishing point.

Note
Only publishing points that are shut down can be edited. A publishing point that is shut down has a State value of Idle in the Publishing Point Status pane.

Details

Opens the Publishing Point Details feature page, in which you can view track and connection details for a publishing point that is selected in the Publishing Point Status pane.

Note

This action is only available in IIS Media Services 4 for publishing points that are started.

Start Publishing Point

Starts the selected publishing point.

Stop Live Source

Ends the Live Smooth Streaming presentation. The publishing point can still deliver archived live streams if client DVR settings are enabled for the publishing point.

Shut Down Publishing Point

Shuts down the publishing point so that it cannot accept HTTP requests.

Manage Credentials

Opens the Manage Credentials dialog box, in which you can view and manage a list of credentials that can be used for connections to live stream sources that require authentication.
