RRAS: The Routing and Remote Access role service must be enabled

Issue

The Routing and Remote Access role service is disabled on this computer.

Impact

If the Routing and Remote Access role service is not enabled, then the server cannot provide routing or remote access services to remote clients.

Resolution

Use 'Routing and Remote Access' in Server Manager to enable the Routing and Remote Access role service.

In addition to installing the RRAS role service, you must enable the role service and configure it to perform as a router or remote access server.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To enable Routing and Remote Access

  1. Start Server Manager. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.

  2. In the navigation tree, expand Roles, and then expand Network Policy and Access Services.

  3. Right-click Routing and Remote Access, and then click Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access.

Note

A disabled RRAS server can be identified by the icon that contains a circle with a red down arrow. An enabled RRAS server uses an icon that contains a green up arrow.

  1. Follow the steps in the RRAS Setup Wizard to specify the routing and remote access services that this server is to provide.
