[The feature associated with this page, DirectShow, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer, IMFMediaEngine, and Audio/Video Capture in Media Foundation. Those features have been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft strongly recommends that new code use MediaPlayer, IMFMediaEngine and Audio/Video Capture in Media Foundation instead of DirectShow, when possible. Gets a class identifier (CLSID) from the preferred list, specified by index value.

Syntax

HRESULT GetPreferredClsidByIndex(
  [in]  DWORD index,
  [out] GUID  *subType,
  [out] CLSID *clsid
);

Parameters

[in] index

The zero-based index of the CLSID to retrieve.

[out] subType

Receives the subtype GUID associated with the CLSID.

[out] clsid

Receives the CLSID at the specified index.

Return value

This method can return one of these values.

Return code Description
S_OK
 The method succeeded.
HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(ERROR_NO_MORE_ITEMS)
 The index parameter is out of range.
