Installing XmlLite

This topic provides information about installing XmlLite (Xmllite.dll) and the XmlLite development files, Xmllite.lib, Xmllite.idl and Xmllite.h.

XmlLite Runtime File

The XmlLite runtime file, Xmllite.dll, is integrated into the following operating systems and products:

  • Windows Server 2008 or later

  • Windows Vista or later

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 3 or later

  • Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 or later

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and later.

The XmlLite runtime is maintained by the Windows Update service. You cannot redistribute the Xmllite.dll file with your application.

XmlLite Development Files

To build applications with XmlLite, you must have the XmlLite development files, Xmllite.lib, Xmllite.idl and Xmllite.h. These files are provided in the Windows SDK. The Windows SDK is included in Visual Studio 2012 and later versions, and it can also be installed as a separate download. For Windows SDK system requirements, supported operating systems, and download links, see Windows Software Development Kit (SDK). To install older versions of the Windows SDK, see the Windows SDK Archive download page.

You do not have to install all of the features in the Windows SDK to get Xmllite.lib and Xmllite.h. To get Xmllite.lib, Xmllite.idl and Xmllite.h, as well as other library and header files, select the features that include the headers and libraries in the Windows SDK installer.
