Nell'esempio seguente viene definita una classe personalizzata NumberFormatInfo che definisce il segno negativo come stringa "~" e il segno positivo come stringa "!". Commenti

Se value è positivo e toBase è 2, 8 o 16, la stringa restituita usa la rappresentazione di segno e grandezza. Se value è negativo e toBase è 2, 8 o 16, la stringa restituita utilizza la rappresentazione di complemento di due. Ciò significa che il bit di ordine elevato del byte di ordine elevato (bit 15) viene interpretato come bit di segno. Se viene chiamato il ToString(Int16, Int32) metodo per creare una stringa che verrà successivamente convertita in un numero, è necessario chiamare un metodo corrispondente che presuppone una rappresentazione numerica simile per eseguire la conversione. Tali metodi includono Convert.ToInt16(String, Int32) e Int16.Parse(String, NumberStyles).

Se value è negativo e toBase è 2, 8 o 16, la stringa restituita utilizza la rappresentazione di complemento di due. Ciò significa che il bit di ordine elevato del byte di ordine più alto (bit 31) viene interpretato come bit di segno.
