Running Logo Tests for System Submissions

Note  This content applies to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK). For the latest information using the new Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK), see Windows HCK User's Guide on the Windows Hardware Dev Center.

To run the logo tests for a system submission and create a submission package to send to Microsoft for logo approval, do the following:

Note   The following procedures assume that you have completed the DTM setup and installation procedures for both the DTM client and DTM Studio.

To use the Create New Submission wizard to select and run system logo tests

  1. Open DTM Studio.

  2. On the Explorers menu, click Device Console. (You can also switch to the Device Console window by clicking the Device Console tab in the lower left part of DTM Studio.)

  3. Select your DTM controller from the Data Store dropdown list in the upper left part of the Device Console window.

  4. Click the Submission option in the Submission frame. This is selected by default.

  5. Select <New Submission> from the Submission list on the right side of the Device Console window, and follow the instructions in the Create New Submission wizard.

    Note  If you have an existing submission, you will see the submission name appear in the Submission list. You can select your submission name to continue testing with an existing submission.

  6. Do the following to choose the system logo tests to run:

    1. Select the operating system and processor architecture to test, and then click Next

    2. Select System Submission as your submission category, and then click Next.

    3. Select one of the following subcategories for your qualification level, and then click Next.

      • Windows Vista:
        • All-In-One (Business)
        • All-In-One (Consumer)
        • All-In-One (Business and Consumer)
        • Desktop (Business)
        • Desktop (Consumer)
        • Desktop (Business and Consumer)
        • Mobile (Business)
        • Mobile (Consumer)
        • Mobile (Business and Consumer)
        • Motherboard (Business)
        • Motherboard (Consumer)
        • Motherboard (Business and Consumer)
        • Previously Logo'd Motherboard (Business)
        • Previously Logo'd Motherboard (Consumer)
        • Previously Logo'd Motherboard (Business and Consumer)
        • Ultra-Mobile (Business)

          Note   You must complete a full system submission before running the GPU family update category on that system for swapping GPUs from different families, as defined in Windows Logo Policy-0017. The GPU family update category is a subset of tests to verify graphics subsystem only.

      Note  After you choose a subcategory for Windows Vista, you must choose a qualification level of Premium or Basic, and then click Next.

    4. Enter a name for the submission, select the machine pool that contains the machine to use for the submission, and then click Next.

    5. Choose the system from the resource pool that will be submitted for a logo, and then click Next. Go to step F if you are making a Windows 7 submission. For all other operating systems, click Finish. You can use any resources that have a matching identifier for testing.

    6. For Windows 7 submission, choose one or more additional qualifications. If you are not testing for an addition qualification, leave the check boxes blank. Click Finish.

To select and schedule logo tests:

  1. In the filtered list on the right side of the Device Console window, select the displayed logo tests.

  2. Click the Add Selected button.

  3. Click the Schedule button.

Note   System tests that require some manual intervention will have "(Manual)" at the end of the test name.

To monitor logo test progress:

  • Observe logo test progress by using Job Monitor, and manually intervene if the test requires it. You can manually refresh the logo tests status in the Device Console window by pressing F5 or by clicking Refresh on the View menu.

  • Examine the results of a job in Result Explorer and diagnose the source of any errors. Rerun logo tests if necessary until they pass successfully.

  • If you click the Submission Status button, you will apply all applicable Errata and Contingencies through the test results.

After the logo tests have all passed successfully, you can submit the logo test results to Microsoft for approval.
