What if a potential teacher violates the safety guidelines?

If your potential teacher wants to break the rules...

TakeLessons Partners must meet high safety standards when messaging with potential students through Ask-A-Question. Though we do our best to help instructors understand what is (and isn’t) allowed in Ask-A-Question, we want to ensure you're prepared in the event you encounter a situation that violates the TakeLessons safety guidelines or Terms of Service.

Here are some starter replies, to help you handle a few of these requests. We recommend you add your own voice to this text (or write your own) when messaging teachers.

“Can I email / call / contact you?” or “Can you send your contact information?”

"I noticed that the TakeLessons safety guidelines says I’m not able to share contact information until I book lessons. Once I sign up, I'll be able to call / text / email you directly, so we can arrange to chat or meet. In the meantime, I'm happy to communicate here to help you make sure I’m a good fit for you prior to purchasing. What would you like to know to determine if we’re a good match?"

“Can we meet in-person before you buy lessons?”

"I can’t meet up with you before I sign up, but if for some reason we're not a good match I can contact TakeLessons and transfer any unused lesson credits to another instructor, or get a refund for the remaining unused lesson credits."

“Would you like a free lesson?”

"Since TakeLessons offers all students a Satisfaction Guarantee, I feel it would be best to book lessons before we meet up. If for some reason I'm not a good fit for you, I can contact them and transfer any unused lesson credits to another instructor or get a refund for the remaining unused lesson credits."

Reporting a thread

It is our goal to provide high quality providers for our students and we work to ensure all partners on our platform are familiar with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. In the event that something slips under our radar, have a few options available should you encounter a conversation that needs our review.

If you have a quality concern

It is our expectation that the instructor's availability and profile information are as accurate as possible. If you feel there is an inconsistency in the information listed on the teachers profile or you have a provider quality concern, our Support Team would be happy to take a look!

Please send us an email at info@takelessons.com and a representative will follow up accordingly.

If you feel a conversation violates our safety guidelines

Alternatively, if a message from an instructor violates either the TakeLessons safety guidelines or Terms of Service. Such as if a teacher continues to insist on a trial lesson, meeting prior to booking, booking through a separate platform, or insists that you send your contact information through the Inbox after you have politely declined - Report the Thread and our team will connect with the instructor to clarify our policies.

  1. Click on the Inbox tab in your student account.
