Team Project is not WellFormed

The information in this article applies to:

  • Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010

  • Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008

  • SQL Server 2008

  • Team Foundation Server Complete Health check

  • Team Foundation Server Framework Health check

The Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server queries the database to determine the state that is associated with each team project. An error message appears if a team project is in a state other than WellFormed (for example, Deleting). The error message contains the name of the team project and its current state.

If a project is in a state that is other than WellFormed, the project was either partially created or partially deleted. For example, a user might have tried to create or delete a project without sufficient permissions, or a time-out might have occurred while the project was being created or deleted.

To resolve this issue, you must delete the project by using the TFSDeleteProject command. If failures occur when you run the command, you use the /force option to continue to delete components even if one component cannot be deleted. For more information, see the following pages on the Microsoft website: Deleting Team Projects with TFSDeleteProject and Create a Team Project.

You cannot restore a project after you delete it.
