A SharePoint Web Application is not configured correctly

The information in this article applies to:

  • Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010

  • Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008

  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010

  • Team Foundation Server Complete Health Check

  • SharePoint Products Health Check

The Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server performs several web service calls as part of its health check for SharePoint Products. An error appears if the tool determines that one or more web services that Team Foundation Server uses to communicate with SharePoint Products are either unresponsive or not present. One or more of the following messages might appear:

  • TeamFoundationIntegrationService web service failed to retrieve Timeout

  • TeamFoundationIntegrationService web service failed to retrieve mappings from the admin site

  • TeamFoundationIntegrationService web service failed to retrieve service account

  • Team Foundation service account "{0}" is not part of the Farm Administrators group

The most common cause of these errors is that the Team Foundation Server Extensions for SharePoint Products are either not installed or are not functional on the servers that are running SharePoint Products. Team Foundation Server requires these extensions to interoperate with SharePoint Products. For more information, see Interactions Between Team Foundation Server and SharePoint Products, Extensions for SharePoint Products, and How to: Install Team Foundation Server Extensions for SharePoint Products.
