The Library Share is not configured correctly

The information in this article applies to:

  • Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010

  • Visual Studio 2010 Lab Management

  • Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008

  • Team Foundation Server Complete Health Check

  • Visual Studio Lab Management Health Check

The Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server checks the configuration of the library servers and library shares that are configured for a team project collection. The tool logs the information it gathers in the tree report under the Library Share Checks node**.** You can locate the Library Share Checks node by expanding Team Foundation Server Complete Health Check, expanding Team Foundation Server, expanding Team Project Collections, expanding a named project collection, and then expanding Lab Management. The tool logs information that it gathers in the tree report under the node: Team Foundation Server Complete Health Check > Visual Studio Lab Management.

In order to use Lab Management, you must resolve all errors. You do not have to resolve warnings.

Warning Messages

A warning appears if one of the following conditions is detected:

  • A problem occurred while performing the Lab Management checks for the library share

  • Cannot access the library server

  • Either the library server is unavailable or you do not have administrative privileges on the server. Check the status of the library server by using the SCVMM Administration console.

  • Library server does not have the recommended WinRM settings

To correct this condition, perform the tasks indicated in "Improve the Reliability of WinRM" on the following Microsoft Web site: How to: Change the Library Share for Your Team Project Collections. These settings increase the robustness of System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) operations performed using Lab Management.

  • No library shares have been added to the team project collection

To use Lab Management, you must add at least one library share to a team project collection. To correct this condition, see the following Microsoft Web site: How to: Change the Library Share for Your Team Project Collections.

  • Required software patches for the host are not installed

To correct this condition, install the software patches listed in the warning. As a best practice, you can use Windows Update to keep your computer up-to-date with the latest software patches.

  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) access on the library server encountered permission problems

To correct this condition, the user who is running the scan must be granted administrative privileges on the server that hosts the library server.

  • Unable to retrieve Windows Remote Management settings of the library server

For computers that are running Windows Server 2008, you might need to configure additional settings to handle remote connections under User Access Control (UAC). In addition, you might need to verify that the WMI traffic port is open on the server that hosts the library server. For more information, see Prerequisites for Using the Best Practices Analyzer Tool.

  • Unencrypted file transfers are not allowed for the library server (Warning)

Unencrypted file transfers is not allowed for the library server

To improve the performance of virtual machine transfers, you should allow unencrypted file transfers for library servers.

참고

If you allow unencrypted files, the protocol changes from https to http, which is less secure.

To allow unencrypted file transfers for library servers

  1. On the Application Tier, in the Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console.

    1. Click Start, point to All programs, point to Microsoft System Center, point to Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, and then click Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console.

    2. On the Connect to Server dialog box, type localhost or the name of the VMM Server, and click Connect.

  2. In the Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console, in the lower-left navigation window, click the Library tab.

  3. Right-click the name of the library server that is specified in the error message in the Library Servers tree, and then click Properties.

  4. Select the Allow unencrypted file transfers check box.

  5. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Error Messages

An error message appears if one of the following conditions is detected:

  • Library server is not responding (Error)

  • A library share is no longer present in System Center Virtual Machine Manager server (Error)

  • Unsupported operating system is installed on the library server (Error)

  • To use library shares and library servers for Lab Management, you must resolve all errors.

Library server is not responding

The library server for a library share is not responding. This could be for one of the following reasons:

  • The library server is currently offline or is inaccessible.

  • A firewall is blocking access to the library server.

Make sure that the library server named in the error message is configured correctly in the System Center Virtual Machine Manager. For more information, see the following pages on the Microsoft Web site: Configuring the VMM Library and "Configure SCVMM" in Configuring Lab Management for the First Time.

For information about firewalls, see this page on the Microsoft Web site: How to Configure Windows Firewall on a Single Computer.

A library share is no longer present in System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) server

The Library share that was added to a team project collection is currently not present in VMM server. This could be for one of the following reasons:

  • The library share or library server has been removed from VMM Server.

  • The library share has been deleted.

  • The library share or library server has been deleted and then re-added to VMM Server.

Make sure that Library Server is configured correctly in your SCVMM Server.

Verify that the Library Server is configured correctly. For more information, see the following pages on the Microsoft Web site: How to Add a Library Server and How to: Change the Library Share for Your Team Project Collections.

Unsupported operating system is installed on the library server

Only the following operating systems are supported on the library server.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system (Hyper-V 64-bit, Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter Editions)

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 (Server Core installation, Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter Editions)

  • Windows Server 2008 operating system (Hyper-V 64-bit, Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter Editions with Service Pack 2)

  • Windows Server 2008 (Server Core installation, Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter Editions with Service Pack 2)
