Can I try Dynamics 365 Layout before buying it?
Yes, Dynamics 365 Layout is available as a trial for up to 90 days. It's nearly effortless to install and try out the app. Learn more about the free 90-day trial for Dynamics 365 Layout. Note that the 90-day trial is only available for users who haven't already purchased a subscription.

How can I tell which version I'm using?
To see the version number for Dynamics 365 Layout, go to Settings > About.
To see the version number for Dynamics 365 Import Tool (Preview), go to Settings, and then look in the About section.
Do I need the Dynamics 365 Layout apps for both Microsoft HoloLens and Windows Mixed Reality immersive headsets?
No, you can use each app separately, though they do work together as well. If you want to copy 3D models or layouts from your PC to your HoloLens or to Windows Mixed Reality, you’ll need the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Import Tool (Preview).
What are the technical requirements for running the Dynamics 365 Layout apps?
HoloLens: Your headset must be running the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.
Import Tool: Your PC must be running the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.
Do I need an Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account to use Dynamics 365 Layout?
Yes, if you’re the admin, you’ll need an Azure AD account to distribute the apps, and users of Dynamics 365 Layout and the Import Tool will need an Azure AD account to sign in to the apps.
How often is Dynamics 365 Layout updated?
Dynamics 365 Layout follows the Modern Lifecyle Policy with continuous service updates and major updates every 6 months (October/April).
Can I use the HoloLens clicker with Dynamics 365 Layout?
You can use the HoloLens clicker with Dynamics 365 Layout but it has limited functionality. You can use the clicker to do menu selections and to scan a room, but you can't use it to manipulate objects.
Do I need to be connected to Wi-Fi to use Dynamics 365 Layout?
If you want to convert 3D models using the Import Tool, you’ll need a Wi-Fi connection if you use the cloud service option. If you choose to convert files using the PC option, you don’t need a Wi-Fi connection.
Can I change the unit of measure in Dynamics 365 Layout to metric?
Yes, you can choose between U.S. and metric units from Settings > Measurements > Unit of measure.
What languages is Dynamics 365 Layout available in?
Dynamics 365 Layout is available for HoloLens2 in the following locales:
- Canada (English and French)
- Taiwan (no speech support)
- Hong Kong SAR (no speech support)
Dynamics 365 Layout, the Import Tool, and the Visio Add-in for Dynamics 365 Layout are available only in English for HoloLens1. Additionally, to install the add-in, you’ll need to set the display language for Microsoft Office to English.
Where is Dynamics 365 Layout available?
Dynamics 365 Import Tool (Preview) is available worldwide. Dynamics 365 Layout can be used with HoloLens or a Mixed Reality headset/motion controller and a Windows Ultra PC.

How do I import AutoCAD models?
You can prepare your 3D models yourself using third-party conversion and optimization tools or you can use the Dynamics 365 Import Tool (Preview) to send your models to Microsoft to convert and optimize. Whichever method you use, after converting and optimizing the models, you use the Dynamics 365 Import Tool (Preview) to prepare them for mixed reality. Learn more about the Import Tool.
How does the Import Tool process my 3D models?
If you send your model to Microsoft for conversion and optimization, it’s uploaded to a secure location. Microsoft prepares the model using a combination of automated and manual steps. Microsoft provides a download link when the model is ready. After you download it, your model is deleted from the secure storage area.
