Dynamics 365 education accelerator – K-12

The K-12 component in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 education accelerator sits on top of an existing Dynamics 365 instance or Microsoft Power Apps instance to assist with day-to-day operations, or as a standalone data model for developers to build custom applications. The student profile, educator, and community engagement scenario contains the data model and installable scenarios.

The data model

The Microsoft Dynamics 365 education accelerator comes with an industry data model that can be used across the Microsoft Dataverse and Microsoft technology stack. The data model is a combination of extensions to native entities and custom entities to track student, school, staff, and faculty data elements. These data elements can be extended to build industry leading applications on the low-code or no-code Microsoft Power Platform. The K-12 data model is also available as a stand-alone model that ISV and SI partners can utilize.

Installable scenarios

Feature Description
Standard entity attribute extensions Extensions to Dataverse tables that are used in Dynamics 365 Customer Sales and Dynamics 365 Customer Service scenarios. Examples include: Contact, Account, Activities and Address. These extensions allow partners and customers to use the native capabilities of Microsoft Power Platform, Dynamics 365, and other products such as Microsoft Power Apps portals and Dynamics 365 Marketing (licensing required).
Specific education entities for K-12 Industry-specific data tables have been added as extensions to Dataverse. These extensions provide a strong schema foundation for customers who want to build industry leading solutions on Microsoft Power Platform. Customers and partners can easily extend K-12 Dataverse tables to enable more value-add scenarios for institutions.
Sample data Each application has optional sample data. This data helps customers and partners better understand the schema. Customers can choose to install the sample data at any time. Sample data includes records across both custom tables and extended Dataverse tables.
Prebuilt dashboards and portals Gain a better understanding of your students, staff, and other related data sources. The education accelerator ships with a set of templates for both native Dynamics 365 dashboards and Microsoft Power BI templates. Customers can use these templates upon installation to view sample data and to extend these reports to meet more extensive reporting requirements.

Enhance student engagement

Engage your students with intuitive applications for faculty and staff. Set up a student and parent access portal for better communication and engage donors to help raise funds for your school.

Scenario Target audience Description

Parents and students can access this information from a responsive website built on Microsoft Power Apps portals.
Collect school paperwork and forms Faculty and staff Use Microsoft Power Platform to extend applications that automate the collection of paperwork and forms related to application processes. Digitally transform your application and application process.
School management Faculty and staff Interact with custom schema that aligns to industry standards for managing school operations. Use the model-driven application to manage school calendars, bell schedules, learning accommodations, and teacher certification and licenses.
Ability to engage donors and raise funds Staff Interact with custom schema that aligns to industry standards for managing donors and donations. Use the model-driven application to gain a better understanding of donors. Customers can use the industry-leading marketing and customer relationship management (CRM) features of Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 to bring in donations and increase donor communication.
Student Behavior Management application Faculty and staff Administrators can easily record, track, and encourage positive behavior from students through a Power Apps application built on canvas apps.
Track and Report Attendance application and dashboard Faculty and staff Educators can easily track and report attendance in the attendance application. For ease of access, this application can also be modified for use on a tablet or phone.

Site map extensions

With the K-12 component, schools can optimize student success through understanding data about the student journey. When the accelerator is installed, the experience is transformed into one built for K-12 schools and one that allows schools to quickly build Power Apps applications and Power BI visualizations.
