Microsoft Return to School Analytics dashboard

The Microsoft Return to School Analytics dashboard is created for school or school district executives, administrators, and case managers to help them understand the status of their schools in the context of COVID-19. The dashboard can also assist with decision-making as they help get students and staff safely back to school.

Overview

The Overview section provides a snapshot of the key COVID-19 metrics and school-reopening phases. It also provides the trends of the spread within the communities that the schools are located in.

Current status

The Current Status tab provides a current snapshot of the key metrics, including cases, tests, test positivity rate, and the number of people in quarantine.

The first map shows the reopening phase of different schools, and the second map shows the latest number of cases by school to help quickly identify schools at higher risk.

Testing

For schools with the testing module implemented, the Testing section shows daily trends of key testing metrics, risk analysis by cohort, and the operational performance of the testing program.

The Trends tab in the Testing section displays daily trends of new tests, new positive tests, new negative tests, cumulative tests, and the test positivity rate. This data can be filtered by school, role, test type, and other demographic information.

Cohort analysis

The Cohort Analysis tab displays the test positivity rate by school, role, test type, and demographics to identify the specific cohort groups that are at higher or lower risk.

Operational performance

The Operational Performance tab provides information about the performance of the school’s testing program. It gives a summary of the total tests performed and the test results by test category or by lab. It also summarizes the average turnaround time for each lab.

Cases

The Cases section provides insights on the student and staff cases data, including daily trends, clusters, and case management.

The Trends tab in the Cases section shows daily trends of new cases and cumulative cases, which can be filtered by school, role, test type, and other demographic information.

Clusters

The Clusters tab helps health and safety leads view cases as clusters and assess whether there is an outbreak in a school. The tab focuses on case contacts and links between active cases, identifying the root cause of the outbreak. It also provides a set of metrics and trends related to case contacts. These metrics include:

  • Contacts per case: Average number of case contacts per active case.

  • % contacts evaluated: Percentage of case contacts whose evaluation is complete.

  • Average evaluation time: For evaluated case contacts, time taken to evaluate or process a case contact, in days.

  • Average linked cases per case: The number of case contacts with an active case of their own per active case.

  • % evaluated within 24 hours: Percentage of case contacts that were evaluated or processed within 24 hours of identification.

Case management

The Case Management tab provides overall visibility into key metrics related to student and staff cases. The key metrics include:

  • Total active cases: Number of active cases.

  • Average resolution time: Days needed to resolve cases.

  • Average risk: Average case risk associated with a school or school district.

  • Days without new cases: Number of days that have passed with no new cases opened at a school or school district.

The interactive map displays the active cases by stage and location. The size of the bubble represents the number of cases. The Case Manager Overview table contains information about the number of cases, average risk, and average resolution time in days.

Passes

The Passes section shows information about daily passes generated for students, staff, faculty, guests, and other school visitors. It also highlights the percentage of visits to schools that do not pass the health check. The list of schools helps to monitor the visits and passes on a school level.

Dashboard Tools

Throughout the dashboard, you can use numerous tools like sliders, date filters, and bookmarks. The visualizations include bar and column charts, cards, gauge charts, maps, and more.

Slicer

The slicer tool helps you quickly "slice and dice" the data, focusing only on the data points you're interested in. For example, use the School slicer to select a subset of schools. The slicer tool supports functions like multiple selections, search, and clear selections.

Tooltips

When you hover over the maps, graphs, and other interactive visuals, tooltips give you quick insights with more details.
