  SPEAKERS


 

Arturo Toledo is a Sr. Product Manager at Redmond working with the Web Platform team. He is responsible for research, product development and community engagement for Microsoft Web development products like WebMatrix. He is an active member of the UX community in Microsoft. Arturo studied architecture at La Salle University in Mexico City, did additional media and visualization studies at the University of Arizona. Post graduation, Arturo applied his multimedia design and development skills and founded Milton Frank Studio, a boutique interactive development studio.

Georg Petschnigg is a co-founder at the Microsoft Pioneer Studios, a design venture team that develops new consumer business. He lead the incubation of Courier, a digital journal, and worked in emerging markets, new technologies, as well as with established brands like the New York Times and Samsung.

For over 10 years he has developed products including Office 2007, consumer electronics, rich web applications, HDTV and invented in the areas of digital photography and visualization. Georg holds a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Product Design from Stanford University and a B.A. in Computer Engineering and Economics from Columbia University. He currently lives in New York City and is working with publishers and advertising agencies.


 

Gill Cleeren is Microsoft Regional Director (www.theregion.com), MVP ASP.NET, INETA speaker bureau member and Silverlight Insider. He lives in Belgium where he works as .NET architect at Ordina. Passionate about .NET, he’s always playing with the newest bits. In his role as Regional Director, Gill has given many sessions, webcasts and trainings on new as well as existing technologies, such as Silverlight, ASP.NET and WPF at conferences including TechDays, DevDays NL, NDC Norway, SQL Server Saturday Switzerland, Spring Conference UK… He’s also the author of many articles in various developer magazines and organizes the yearly Community Day event in Belgium.

He also leads Visug (www.visug.be), the largest .NET user group in Belgium. Gill recently published his first book: "Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook" (Packt Publishing).

Karen Davis joined Microsoft in 2009 as a User Experience/Motion Designer for Windows Phone. She has produced rapid prototypes, final motion, ixd, and visual design for the device and services side and has recently joined the Application Platform Team. Prior to Microsoft she spent 10 years working in Television for CNN International, CBS, and Blender Studios in Atlanta, GA. Karen obtained her BFA in painting from SCAD in Atlanta, GA. She is a designer and an artist working in both digital and traditional mediums. Karen and her beautiful husky Zidane live in Seattle, Wa.


 

Kat Holmes joined Microsoft in 2008 as a Studio Director for Windows Phone. In addition to overseeing product, services and brand design development she has worked to elevate the role of design thinking, strategy and management in large engineering-driven corporations. Kat gets pretty excited about the ways that design thinking can transform organizations. Especially when it is applied as a holistic and customer-focused approach to problem solving across business, design and technology teams. Prior to Microsoft she spent 7 years at Tektronix, Inc. in Beaverton, OR as a design manager for user experience and industrial design. Kat obtained her B.S. in Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and attended her MBA at Portland State University. She is an artist, mostly dedicated to painting and sculpting. Her weaknesses are raw seafood, stinky cheeses and buying flamboyant new shoes for her toddler. Kat and her family live in Seattle, Washington.


 

Always passionate about technology, Katrien De Graeve has been active with the Internet technologies for over 13 years. Joining Microsoft in 2007, Katrien is a Developer and UX Evangelist for Microsoft Belgium & Luxembourg. Her focus is on working with community and the Microsoft Web and UX stack.

Luis is an Architect Evangelist at Microsoft Portugal and is working in IT for longer than he really wants to remember. Played different roles in diverse areas always with business productivity on mind. He is actually focused on cloud computing, web technologies, user experience and any solution that can bring happiness to application development.

Maarten Balliauw is a technical consultant in web technologies at RealDolmen, one of Belgium's biggest ICT companies. His interests are ASP.NET (MVC), PHP and Windows Azure. He's a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) ASP.NET and has published many articles in both PHP and .NET literature such as MSDN magazine Belgium and PHP architect. Maarten is a frequent speaker at various national and international events.

Pete LePage works at Microsoft on the Internet Explorer team as a Senior Product Manager, helping developers take advantage of the web platform in Internet Explorer. LePage has been designing websites since his early days in high school, evolving from overlapping, and tags on GeoCities to properly styled CSS, managed hosted websites. Prior to joining the product management team, LePage was a tester on Microsoft’s Visual Web Developer where he tested much of the web design experience.

In addition to his career at Microsoft, LePage enjoys travelling and is an avid film photographer; he has studied and taught at the prestigious Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle where he has recently completed his Thesis in Fine Art Photography.
