This article contains information and guidelines for maintaining the databases that host Microsoft Project Server 2010. It describes and provides examples of the database maintenance tasks that we recommend when you are using Project Server 2010.

This document provides detailed examples for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. External references for how to perform the same database maintenance tasks with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 are also included.

Before you implement any database maintenance tasks or modify your Project Server 2010 or Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 databases, read Обслуживание баз данных для SharePoint Server 2010.

A well-defined database maintenance plan and process are necessary for the smooth operation of Project Server 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010 databases. This document describes the key concepts, database maintenance tasks supported for Project Server 2010 databases, and best practices.

Broadly, the recommended database maintenance tasks for Project Server 2010 databases include the following:

  • Checking database integrity

  • Defragmenting indexes by either reorganizing them or rebuilding them

  • Setting the fill factor for a server

  • Monitoring database size to determine whether to grow or shrink databases

If your organization wants the simplest possible database maintenance plan, we recommend that you use a default Microsoft SQL Server maintenance plan. For more information, see Maintenance Plan Wizard (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=221722) in SQL Server Books Online.
