The [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common] namespace contains classes that provide connection functionality to the other SQL Server management namespaces.

The Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common namespace contains the classes that are used to establish a connection to an instance of SQL Server Database Engine. The most important class in this namespace is the ServerConnection class. The ServerConnection object lets you manage the connection to the instance of the Database Engine. It is referenced by various classes in the other manageability namespaces.

The Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common namespace resides in the Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll assembly file.

By using the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common namespace, you can do the following:

• Connect to an instance of SQL Server.

• Control the connection settings.

• Run Transact-SQL statements directly.

• Capture the Transact-SQL statements that are generated by the SMO program.
