Assign Microsoft Stream (Classic) admins

Warning

Microsoft Stream (Classic) is being retired and replaced by Stream (on SharePoint) and Microsoft Teams live events. It is recommended to start using Stream (on SharePoint) by uploading videos to SharePoint, Teams, Viva Engage, or OneDrive, and to run your live events through Teams and Viva Engage.

Stream (Classic) admins manage creation of company-wide channels, can edit video metadata for all videos, reassign ownership of a group or channel, remove videos, and can set up a Stream (Classic) usage policy for your organization.

To assign users the Stream (Classic) admin role, you must have the Microsoft 365 Global Admin role.

All users assigned as Stream (Classic) admins need a Stream license assigned to them in order to access Stream (Classic). Unlike other Microsoft 365 apps, Stream (Classic) requires admins to have a Stream license assigned like any other user.

  1. In Stream, go to Settings > Admin settings.

When a user with Stream (Classic) admin rights goes to Stream (Classic) settings, they see Admin settings.

If you're not a Stream (Classic) admin, when you click the Settings icon Settings icon. you won't see Admin Settings. If you need Stream (Classic) admin rights, contact your IT department.
