How to Update an Existing Virtual Application Package

You can update a virtual application package that has been imported into Configuration Manager 2007 using one of the following methods:

  • Using the Virtual Application Package Update Wizard.

  • Editing the Source directory of an existing virtual application package.

Regardless of the method you use, you must first create a new version of the virtual application package source using the Microsoft Application Virtualization Sequencer. After the new version of the package has been created, you must configure the updated virtual application package so that it references the updated Manifest XML file. The updated virtual application package must also be copied to the applicable Configuration Manager 2007 distribution points and re-advertised to target computers.

Use one of the following procedures to update an existing virtual application package.

注意

The information in this topic applies only to Configuration Manager 2007 R2.

To update an existing virtual application package using the virtual application package update wizard

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Distribution.

  2. If necessary expand the Software Distribution node and then click Packages. To open the Virtual Application Package Update Wizard, in the results pane, right-click the virtual application package you want to update and then click Update Package. Alternatively, you can click Update Package in the Actions pane.

  3. On the Update Package page, specify the network location of the updated Manifest XML file that you created when you upgraded the sequenced application. Click Browse to locate the directory. The applications that are contained in the new virtual application package are displayed, as well as the applications contained in the previous version. Click Next.

  4. On the General page, type the Name that will be assigned to the updated virtual application package. You must also specify the Version, Manufacturer, Language, and an optional Comment that will be assigned to the updated package.

  5. To update all associated distribution points with the new version of the virtual application package, select Update all distribution points with a new package source version. Target computers will run previous versions of the virtual application package until the updated version has been advertised and made available on an accessible distribution point.

  6. To re-run associated mandatory advertisements for the virtual application package select Re-run advertisements with existing mandatory assignments. Existing mandatory advertisements will continue to reference previous versions of the virtual application package until the updated version has been made available on an accessible distribution point. Click Next.

  7. To apply the new settings, on the Summary page, click Next. To close the wizard, on the Confirmation page, click Close.
