hi everyone, i know the problem is known and i know how to solve it, but not where to find it :-D

short story. we made an upgrade from 2008 to a printserver 2019. win 10 clients can print, win 7 clients cannot print.

i found multiple articles which describe that a service must be disabled or enabled in order to get win 7 machines running / i mean printing on the new server.

now the question: Where can i find this service in the registry?

    Hello @Eduard Kautz

This is due to recent updates to protect from the PrintNightmare exploit.
Only users with Admin rights would be able to see the printer because the would have access to the drivers. One workaround is to install manually the printer drivers locally, and this will allow any users on the computer to map the device. Otherwise Microsoft released an article regarding the printer and printer driver management post patching:

Hope this helps with your query,

@Eduard Kautz this is the new default from Microsoft. Microsoft no longer supports printer connections when the client is Windows 7.

There is a registry setting to allow Windows 7 connections.

I have a feeling you might be looking for that.

You would have to have a special support agreement with Microsoft to get the Windows 7 machine running the same protocol as the new default.

The registry setting on the print server will disable the new default protocol requirement https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/managing-deployment-of-printer-rpc-binding-changes-for-cve-2021-1678-kb4599464-12a69652-30b9-3d61-d9f7-7201623a8b25

A Print Spooler restart is required.
