Connect by using a cradle or cable
Use a cradle or cable to establish a direct link and a partnership between the mobile device and the client computer.
- A partnership enables a mobile device to synchronize with a client computer.
The cradle or cable that connects the device to the client computer uses a USB cable or serial cable. Serial cable connections can be used with desktop computers running any Windows operating system. Always use the cable or cradle included with the mobile device to connect the device to the client computer.
To create a connection, connect the mobile device to the client computer, and then follow the on-screen ActiveSync instructions.
When you are using a serial cable, the COM port used during installation of ActiveSync must be available (not in use) in order for ActiveSync to connect to the device. If the COM port is in use: On the File menu, click Get Connected. ActiveSync will free the COM port and connect to the device.
Some of these devices may not be available in your country or region. For more information, see your network administrator.
