Install the security certificate that is issued by the server on a mobile device

Do not complete this procedure if your server has a trusted certificate from a certificate authority installed. Contact the person who is responsible for your network to determine if your server has a third-party trusted certificate or a self-signed security certificate.

You can run this procedure only on a mobile device that is running Windows Mobile 6.0 or later.

To install the security certificate that is issued by the server on a mobile device

  1. Connect the mobile device to a computer that is in the Windows SBS 2008 network and that is running either the ActiveSync® technology or Windows Mobile Device Center.

  2. Open an Internet browser, and then, in the address bar, type \\sites\public\downloads. This is where you can download the certificate installer package.

    Download the certificate installer package only from a computer that is directly connected to your organization's network. Do not download the package over the Internet.

  3. Copy the Install Certificate Package.zip file to your computer.

    If you need to copy the Install Certificate Package.zip file to a computer that is not joined to the Windows SBS 2008 domain, copy the file to portable storage media, such as a floppy disk or USB flash drive.

  4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to where you copied Install Certificate Package.zip.

  5. Right-click Install Certificate Package.zip, and then click Extract All.

  6. In the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog box, type where you want to put the extracted files, and then click Extract.

  7. Open the folder where the extracted files are, and then double-click InstallCertificate.

  8. Ensure that the Windows Mobile–based device is connected to the computer, select Install the certificate on my mobile device, and then click Install.
