Exercise - Count items

This exercise uses the CRONUS sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to adjust the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.

Scenario

You are the inventory manager at CRONUS and must perform the quarterly count of inventory items on March 31, 2020. You initiate the process by filling in the physical inventory journal with calculated inventory quantities, printing the Physical Inventory List report, and then proceeding to do the physical counting. In the process, you record that two London Swivel Chairs are missing and that one lost Rome Guest Chair has been found.

Tasks

  1. Calculate the inventory in Business Central.

  2. Print the physical inventory list.

  3. Enter the correct inventory quantity for items 1908-S and 1960-S.

Steps

  1. Calculate the inventory in Dynamics 365 Business Central:

    1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter physical inventory journals, and then select the related link.

    2. Select Prepare > Calculate Inventory.

    3. On the Options FastTab, in the Posting Date field, enter 03/31/2020.

    4. In the Document No. field, enter PH0320.

    5. Select OK to run the calculation.

  2. Print the physical inventory list:

    1. Select Post/Print > Print.

    2. On the Options FastTab, select the Show Qty. (Calculated) field.

    3. Select Preview to preview the list.

    4. Press the Esc key to close the list.

  3. Enter the correct inventory quantity for items 1908-S and 1960-S:

    1. In the physical inventory journal that contains the inventory, select the line for item 1908-S, LONDON Swivel Chair.

    2. In the Qty. (Phys. Inventory) field, enter 1 and then press the Enter or Tab key. The Entry Type field will change to Negative Adjmt. and the Quantity field will show 2.

    3. On the line for item 1960-S, ROME Guest Chair, enter 3 in the Qty. (Phys. Inventory) field.

    4. Select Post/Print > Post.

    5. Select Yes.

    6. Select OK.
