Production journals

Completed

You can use production journals to report item consumption, route consumption, and finished items. A production journal is a direct link to the ledger system because posting these journals involves posting to the ledger. The system posts journal transactions in the general ledger based on the ledger setting for the production order.

Production journal types

Production journals contain a record of the different types of item transactions that occur when you work with production orders. These item transactions have a direct effect on the company's financial records. To locate the production journals, select Production controlJournals and then select the journal type from the list.

Go to Production control > Setup > Production journal names to create production journals.

The production journal types include:

  • Pick list - This journal is a record of the raw materials that are drawn out of inventory.

  • Route card - This journal is a record of the route consumption.

  • Job card - This journal is a record of the resource consumption by using feedback job cards.

  • Report as finished - This journal is a record of all finished items.

Note

You can change the behavior of the Report as finished journal to have postings process when a Report as finished task is processed. As a result, you can decide whether you want the system to process your journal postings along with a worker who's completing their task or afterward.

When a production journal posts, the system automatically transfers all item transactions to the general ledger. Information that is posted from various journals in the system is used in the general ledger when company-wide financial transactions are calculated.

Generally, production journals are composed of the production journal and the journal lines. The production journal is the highest level of the journal model, and it includes the following information:

  • Journal type

  • Journal name

  • Journal number

  • Status of the journal

  • Explanations about how the journal is posted

  • If the journal is allowed to deduct negatively

  • If errors are to be accepted, along with other information

The production journal lines are the lowest level in the journal model of the production system. To access the journal lines, select the Lines button in the relevant production journal. The lines represent the actual reports that are connected with the production material, such as the release, time consumed, good quantity, and so on.
