MSN Explorer: Train the junk e-mail filter

Although the junk e-mail filter catches most junk e-mail that gets delivered, it may miss some junk e-mail, or send some e-mail that isn't junk to the Junk E-Mail folder. You can train the junk e-mail filter to be more effective by telling it what is and isn't junk e-mail. The more you train the junk e-mail filter, the better it will get at filtering the right e-mail messages.

Identify e-mail messages as junk

  1. In your Inbox, select the check box for the e-mail message that you want to mark as junk e-mail.

  2. Click Junk.

The message is immediately moved to the Junk E-Mail folder.

Identify e-mail messages as not junk

  1. In the Junk E-Mail folder, select the check box for the e-mail message that you want to mark as not junk.

  2. Click Not Junk.

The message is immediately moved to your Inbox.

Note

  • Messages more than seven days old are automatically deleted from the Junk E-Mail folder.

  • If you access your MSN Mail through Windows Live Hotmail, you can delete junk e-mail immediately, rather than after seven days. When you use this feature in Windows Live Hotmail, junk e-mail is also automatically deleted in MSN Mail. To change this setting, sign in to the Windows Live Hotmail website, and open the Options page.
