This Forum is severely broken

  1. When I send a link to a post on this forum to another user via e-mail, and that person clicks on the link, they are asked to sign in before being able to even view the post. This severely limits the ability of others to find issues, associated discussions and their solutions.

  2. When I posted questions on the MSDN forums, I usually got responses from one or two people within a day, if not hours. Now, on this forum, I seem to only get a single response from a Microsoft employee, suggesting that the move to Q&A has lost a significant percentage of the developer audience that it would seek to engage. That further suggests to my that it would be a waste of my time to continue to use this forum.

  3. When I posted questions on this forum, I was severely limited in what tags I could include. For example, I was prevented from including big-picture tags like 'C#' or 'WinForms', let alone anything more detailed like 'DataGridView' or 'ADO'. This means that experts in these areas are also not able to filter posts using such tags, in order to find posts that they could possibly answer. If I was an expert in any of these domains, I would not waste my time on this forum, but would focus my attention on other forums (e.g. StackOverflow, etc.).

This forum is not yet ready for prime-time, and needs serious attention if it will be able to survive at all.

Good day,

This Forum is severely broken

Cannot argue with this but...

When I send a link to a post on this forum to another user via e-mail, and that person clicks on the link, they are asked to sign in before being able to even view the post.

According to my tests, this is not current. You can view the forum in private mode as well without any need to register. Only for responding you need to sign-in

This might be related to temporarily bug. Please re-check now :-)

When I posted questions on the MSDN forums, I usually got responses from one or two people within a day, if not hours. Now, on this forum, I seem to only get a single response from a Microsoft employee, suggesting that the move to Q&A has lost a significant percentage of the developer audience that it would seek to engage.

I agree with you

I think that all the active Moderators from the MSDN should have being added here as Moderators. These were the core of the community and a lot of them are not here yet (some are already here). I cannot go deeper on this point as there is a discussion on this under NDA, but this complaint came from Moderator in the MSDN in public channels like on Facebook.

When I posted questions on this forum, I was severely limited in what tags I could include.

You cannot use free tags but only tags which the team created in advance. I agree that the tags procedure is confusing. It is hard to select the tags when you do not know what tags are available in advance.

Instead of free text box, I think that it was better if you have select text box where you could select multiple tags.

I will add this request in my QnA extension and I will add this option when I will have time, if the team will not add this option to as build-in feature in the forum :-)

I created this issue in the extension project:

https://github.com/pituach/RonenArielyQaN/issues/9

(if/when I will have time then I will add this. I did not thought about it since I never asked any question so I did not notice the problem till this thread)

Since this suggestion was created we worked on #2 (bring more moderators to the platform), as well as increasing the amount of products we support.

As for free tags, that is something in the works. I am going to leave this feedback open to address #3. Thank you for the suggestions.
