I Would like to post some news on a SharePoint online site. However, the news will require content Approver to review before publishing. We are not using any content approval workflow. Therefore, is there any SharePoint permission I can grant to allow content approval to view draft news and keeping their permission to read across the SharePoint Site.

    Hello Darwin,

You probably don't need to modify or add permissions. You could try setting up Content approval to see if that helps.

    1. Go to the list or library where you want to require approval.
    2. Access "Settings," (Top right corner) then select "List settings" or "Library settings."
    3. In the "General settings" section, choose "Versioning settings."
    4. Enable content approval by selecting "Yes" for "Require content approval for submitted items?"
    5. In the "Draft Item Security" section, decide who can view draft items. Options include all users who can read items, only users who can edit items or only users who can approve items and the item author.
    6. Save your changes by clicking "OK."

Here are three methods to solve this issue.

1.Go to Site contents -> Site pages -> Library settings -> Versioning settings -> Content Approval -> Set Require content approval for submitted items as No.

After setting, posts without approval can be seen in the News web part and Site pages library.

2.Go to Site contents -> Site pages -> Library settings -> Versioning settings -> Draft Item Security -> Set Any user who can read items.

After setting, users with default read permission can see posts without approval in the Site pages library.

But in the News web part, posts need to be published and approved, then can be seen.

3.Create a permission level named Read with approval.

(1)Go to Site permissions -> Advanced permission settings -> Permission Levels -> Read -> Copy Permission Level -> Select Approve Items  -  Approve a minor version of a list item or document -> Create.

(2)Go to Site contents -> Site pages -> Library settings -> Permissions for this document library -> Grant users with Read with approval permission.
