We share a folder inside a sharepoint document library, with external users (via link where they need to authenticate with their e-mails and the code received to their mail) with View only permission.
The external users are able to see all the activity clicking on the (i) on the top right corner of the Document Library. They can see who edited what, when... with who they shared something, etc.
That is ok for internal users to be aware of the activity, but external users with View permission... that's too much information.
Our use case:
We share a folder with several different contractors so they read some documents and later send us an offer to participate in the project.
So now they are able to see who are the other "competitors" !
They can see that an internal user shared the folder with a lot more people, they can see the exact e-mails, etc. They can then call or mail each other... and well, you guess how that may represent an issue.
I know that there's not an OOB option to deactivate the Folder Activity for external users (I can't understand how and why such an option doesn't exist yet!) but maybe someone can help me code something to "hide" the (i) for external users or something like that ? Or show me an alternative.
I'm the tenant Admin, it's not my personal need, but my user's need, and I totally understand the problem.
Any idea?

Hi, I have a similar question. To avoid a complex permission construct I configured the item level permissions for users with edit rights to view and edit only items the user created as shown here https://www.sharepointdiary.com/2019/05/sharepoint-online-set-item-level-permission-in-list.html. In the activity log of the library these users see information to all documents, e.g. if one is moved to a folder, and can click and view them! It seems a bit odd that this permission setting can be overcome so easily and therefore I am also wondering whether its possible to deactivate the Activity log feature for a certain library.
Also taking the permission for viewing versions did not help.

You can go to Settings and click Site permissions and select Advanced permissions settings > Select Permission Levels and click Add a Permission Level > Key in the name of permission level and tick the following permissions which only allow user to view pages, list items and documents

Hi, No, nothing solved. The issue still exists and my externals users with read only permissions can view and know all the history of my files and with what other people I shared my files.

But versioning is a good thing, the only thing I don't need is external users with read only access to view all the activity, not only the versioning, but also they can see with who else we shared the files. So it's not only the Versioning what I'm most concerned since usually we save there the already finished documents. Thanks.
Hi @Hernan, The version only need read permission to get. So we are unable to prevent user from getting version history by permssion setting. It turns out to be a by design one. You could try to use spfx to hide the vision https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/spfx/sharepoint-framework-overview
