Is it mandatory to put images in Assets folder?

All samples in the offical docs have images put in Assets folder. Is it an absolute requirement to put images in Assets folder? For my tests, I can actually put images in another folder say Images that is parallel to Assets.

By default, UWP templates include an Assets folder where you can place your image files.

This is just a template, you can use different names for the folders according to your needs.
