Current Branch Site Hardware Migration - Can the Same Site Code be Used?

Is it possible to use the old site code when upgrading and migrating to a newer hardware? The old source is the current branch. I recall reading somewhere that using the old site code would allow the client to pop-up in the new site once the old server is decommissioned.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

==>Is it possible to use the old site code when upgrading and migrating to a newer hardware?

Per my experience, yes, we can use site Backup and Restore method and use the FQDN and IP address of the new server are the same as the old one. Helpful articles for your reference:

    Hi @Belgian Malinois ,

    Thanks for your reply.

==>We are not going to use back up and restore but rather a complete new site setup, migrating only applications from the old site. We are trying to avoid re-installing all the clients.

Per my understanding, you are going to set up a new SCCM site hierarchy in the same AD forest and then migrate from old site hierarchy to new site hierarchy. If yes, we can use a script to reassign client to new site code and avoid re-installing all the clients. (But in this scenario, we need avoid reusing site code previously used in your old SCCM site hierarchy, the new SCCM site hierarchy should have a different site code than the old site hierarchy).

You may refer to below articles for the details to change site code of Configuration Manager client using a script:

If you have not reviewed the possibility of 'migrating to new hardware' by doing an Active/Passive Primary Site server configuration, at least give it a glance. It might be the easiest method for you to switch to new hardware for the primary site server, with no impact at all to your clients:
