Microsoft Authenticator Unable to Access iCloud

I had to reset my Microsoft Authenticator App on iOS 15 and when I try to recover from iCloud, it states "Unable to access iCloud. Make sure you're logged in and have iCloud Drive enabled." iCloud is signed in on my phone, I can access iCloud files, the backup is in iCloud and has worked in the past when recovering. I just re-downloaded the app so it better be on the latest version. I don't even see an option to try and use a different cloud location.

In case anyone is still stuck on this, i followed the instructions from Frederic Dufour but still didn't work, here is what I was missing and needed to do to get it to work.

Got to settings > click on your apple ID

click on "iCloud" > the section labeled "Apps using iCloud" click the "SHOW ALL" option

this will list all the apps using iCloud, find authenticator on that list and switch it ON

Then, go back to "iCloud Drive" > switch it to ON

Now go back to Authenticator and turn on back ups and it should work

On my phone I fixed this by enabling iCloud Drive. It wasn’t clear to me this is what the message was referring to but this worked for me.

I had this problem too. iCloud Drive is separate from iCloud backup, so even if you are logged into iCloud and have the backup configured in iCloud settings and have the app selected in the backup settings, the Microsoft Authenticator app won't detect the backup (not sure if it is backed up then or not). You have to go to the iCloud Drive option under the iCloud settings (not iCloud backup) and enable it there. Then reset the backup option in the Microsoft Authenticator app and it will work.

Old question, but if that can help someone...

On my iPhone I fixed this by enabling iCloud Drive.

Settings -> Click on your AppleID.

    Click on [iCloud].

Under Apps Using iCloud -> Click iCloud Drive and set to [YES].

Go back to the Authenticator app and try to enable iCloud backups.

The network you're on could be blocking. Might try from another location and more ideas here.
