So I got a new phone & had to redownload the authenticator for work. And I’m trying to log into my work email on the authenticator app it’s telling me “use authenticator and enter the code to log in”. LIKE IM ON AUTHENTICATOR trying to set it up now, how do I get around this? I can’t set up authenticator because it’s telling me I need a code from authenticator. Extremely frustrating

You can restore from backup but make sure no accounts have been added to the newly install app. Then sign on with recovery account to do the restore.
You can recover your account credentials from your cloud account, but you must first make sure that the account you're recovering doesn't exist in the Microsoft Authenticator app. For example, if you're recovering your personal Microsoft account, you must make sure you don't have a personal Microsoft account already set up in the authenticator app. This check is important so we can be sure we're not overwriting or erasing an existing account by mistake.

I understand the solution I present may not be ideal and/or permanent, but when I faced a similar issue some time ago. I just went on Incognito Mode of my Google Chrome Browser and logged onto my Microsoft account on there. This solution might come in handy if you do not have the time to try and log in via the Authenticator app. You can later try and get into your account through the app or ask your organization's IT Help Desk to help you with signing in if you're using the Education or Business version. If it's a personal account, you can contact the Microsoft team directly and connect with the service desk who will be able to help you further.

I'm experiencing this same issue, did anyone get a permanent solution? I still have access to everything I need but I cannot re-add my AAD account to Authenticator because when I try to it asks me to use Authenticator to add it back. I do not have the option to restore. I tried the https://myaccount.microsoft.com/ site and went to update info in the security tab and that asks for my Authenticator code too. So how do I setup authenticator for the first time if it requires me to use authenticator to set it up????
