Completely Rethinking the Web

Dirk Knemeyer has written an intriguing article over at Digital Web Magazine, 'Completely Rethinking the Web'.  Dirk's view is that the purist web-only interface approach is a design constraint that needs to be removed when designing e-commerce interfaces. He argues the most engaging applications of the future will be those that take advantge of the local processing power and richness of desktop applications and use the web as the real-time datastore.

"Web design is fundamentally broken. The focus of time and money is happening at the wrong place on the Web continuum. We are trying to accomplish robust solutions on the Web that are better handled on the client. We are not integrating with or understanding hardware—what the people who interact with our creations are physically experiencing. "
