Mini-Microsoft

I read the business week article and, while I found it interesting as a whole, I found the whole Mini-Microsoft bit most entertaining. I have nothing against stating opinions... in fact, I think it's healthy and should be promoted. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. There are only two things that I think are rather sad:

- being anonymous: why not share your opinions and views with your management? The obvious reasons are that mini-microsoft feels that a) nobody will listen, b) it won't look very good for him and c) he's more popular by being anonymous.
- how much time are you waiting? Sheesh -- even if you are doing this on your spare time, that's a lot of time.
- your destinity lies with you: why not change your surroundings? I know why he doesn't... b/c his popularity is never higher and he's under the very real impression that he's making a positive difference... what he's really doing, based on the number of comments, causing microsoft employees to waste time responding to his blog entries and just raising folks' frustration... so in effect, he's actually doing a disservice. not to mention negative mentions in magazines like business week.

To be quite honest, I don't care if he blogs or not. I think it's interesting and just hope he's not doing it on the company dime. As for competition and comparing Microsoft to Google, I think competition is great. Competition promotes innovation => better technology across the board... it also makes life and work a lot more interesting, don't you think?

As for working at Microsoft, it's a great place to work... that's not to say other places aren't. At the end of the day, irrespective of where you work, it's what you make of it... and whether or not you truly believe in what the company is doing.
