VS2008 and .NET 3.5 - now a reality!

As promised earlier this month, VS2008 and .NET 3.5 would RTM in November. Today, it was released to manufacturing (RTM) and is available for you download via your MSDN subscription. All editions are available: Express, Professional, Team System, and Team Foundation Server. Trial versions of the software are also available if you're looking to potentially step-up from Express to Professional to Team System.

When you install .NET 3.5, you'll also be installed .NET 3.0 SP1 and then .NET 3.5 will install on top of that.

If you're a Professional Edition user, you'll be happy (or not) to know that Unit Testing is now a feature availble to you, a feature originally made available to Developer, Tester, and Database Professional Users under VS2005.

Also, you might noticed that the Team Suite's product names have been changes...well, shortened actually (but not by much).

  • Software Architects = Architect Edition
  • Software Developer = Development Edition
  • Software Tester = Test Edition
  • Database Professional = Database Edition

So since this a short work week for many of us, you have time to set your Download Manager to bring down the latest ISOs, upgrade your VS environment to 2008, and start coding. :)

Excelsior!
