Intel Developer Forum 2010

I’ll be attending the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, CA from September 13 to September 15th and will be blogging about the conference and some of the sessions I’ll be attending.

Microsoft will be presenting, alongside Intel engineers, in several sessions. I’m particularly interested to see session SFTS006 – Parallel Programming for the Mainstream with Intel® Parallel Studio and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. As processor core counts continue to grow year-over-year, it becomes increasingly important for developers to leverage parallel programming in order to maximize the performance of their software.

IDF2010-time-to-change-future-again

I’m a little bit of a parallelism and multi-core junkie and so it will be very interesting to learn more about the future of multi-core, from the smallest devices to the Cloud, one thing is for sure; parallelism is the “new normal”.

While attending the IDF ensure you take some time to see these sessions:

SFTS006 Parallel Programming for the Mainstream with Intel® Parallel Studio and Microsoft Visual Studio

Steve Teixeira (Microsoft) and James Reinders (Intel) , will discuss the "new normal" of parallel programming and how to build efficient parallel applications on the Windows platform. Within the session they will show how the combination of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and the latest version of Intel® Parallel Studio offer developers the industry's most formidable platform for building parallel software on Windows. With that combination, developers will have tools that span the development lifecycle, enabling them to leverage the multi-core processors of today and tomorrow.

SFTS013 Mission Critical Application Performance Scalability Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 with Temenos T4 on Intel® Xeon® Processor 7500 Series Based Servers.

Neeraj Joshi (Microsoft) and Nitasha Chopra (Intel) will be presenting STFS013, Mission Critical Application Performance Scalability Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 with Temenos T4 on Intel® Xeon® Processor 7500 Series Based Servers.

Do you have enterprise server performance and the impact of this on Mission Critical Applications on your mind? Would you like to see how real-world financial applications perform with the Intel® Xeon® Processor 7500 Series based hardware coupled with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2?

In this session you’ll see for yourself how the intelligent and powerful Intel Xeon processors coupled with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 provide you with a complete understanding of performance, scalability and reliability on a real-world banking solution. Session focus is on: - Performance, scalability, reliability and optimizations with Intel Xeon Processor 7500 Series based servers- Software Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 featuring Windows Server 2008 R2 and Temenos T4 Financial Workload. Highlights of excellent performance, scalability and reliability with enterprise applications with 4-socket and 8-socket Intel Xeon processor 7500 series based servers

GSPS004 Microsoft Gold Sponsor Session: Efficient and Eco-Friendly Computing With Windows

Microsoft’s Gold Sponsor session is entitled “Efficient and Eco-Friendly Computing with Windows”. In this session Mark Aggar and Mike Danseglio will discuss the major impact IT can have on the environment by reducing energy consumption and increasing utilization of existing infrastructure.

Sustainable IT infrastructure is more than a nod to corporate social responsibility or meeting government regulatory requirements. The deployment of green technology solutions is proven to dramatically improve IT's ability to drive down operating costs, an imperative in today's economic climate. Mark and Mike will highlight the important role that software, system, and device developers need to play to achieve this goal. You'll see demonstrations of several tools and techniques that you can utilize today to help reduce the environmental impact of computing.

Attending IDF?

If you’re attending the IDF this year and would like to talk about parallelism and multi-core programming with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 then let me know as I’d be very interested meeting IDF attendees using our tools to harness the power of multi-core on the Windows platform.
