Events This Week – February 9th, 2009

Good Monday Morning to you! Here are the events listed in Community Megaphone for the next week (or so) for the Mid-Atlantic area:

Monday, February 09, 2009 6:00 PM: SoMD .NET UG - .NET Generics - Generic programming is a style of computer programming where algorithms are written in an extended grammar and are made adaptable by specifying variable parts that are then somehow instantiated later by the compiler with respect to the base grammar. Specifically, the extended grammar raises a non-variable element or implicit construct in the base grammar to a variable or constant and allows generic code to be used, usually implementing common software patterns that are already expressible in the base language. Meetings are held in the Holly III Building, #205.

Thursday, February 12, 2009 6:30 PM: Richmond SQL - Supporting RDBMS - Presenter: Rick Todd Having supported a variety of customers through the years (insurance, banking, ski resorts, historic sites, hotels, ecommerce, etc.) one thing has been consistent: when you get a report that the database-based system is having problems, be it an outage or slowness, it’s best to have a plan of attack. Having recently had to support a non-SQL Server RDBMS performance issue, it became even more apparent that the approach that should be taken across almost any type of business or whatever the RDBMS should be the same. This presentation will cover a guideline for supporting your applications. It will start with the phone ringing in whatever support environment you have, and move from general concepts helpful for any RDBMS into specific things to run on a windows-based SQL Server 2005+ environment.
