Cloud computing is about out sourcing your IT and get internet scale, availability and manageability (PAAS vs IAAS).

Cloud computing is about

1) new business models (subscription and consumption based software licensing),

2) catching the long tail (multi-tenancy) ,

3) eliminating capital expenses (pay as you go/grow)

4) Scale on demand (Up and Down)

Last week Oracle announced Exalogic, their private cloud offering.

At the same time Oracle attempted to redefine Cloud computing by making sure that you still pay 1 million or more in capital expenses and also perpetually license.

So why are they calling it a cloud computing solution rather than a bigger beefier server rack with oracle software preinstalled, beats me …
