GSMWC Day 2

Did you see the HP anouncement yesterday of the h6500? Mike Hall covered it in his blog entry so I wont duplicate the pictures but its worth a look.

Square screen OS support was introduced with "Windows Mobile 2003 Second Eddition software for Pocket PC" (that has to be the longest product name ever!) but this is the first square screen hardware I have seen in production. I haven't seen one of these in the flesh yet so I want to see how well it deals with SIP requests - in theory it should just throw them away.

No mention of an operator deal, but then HP has a pretty strong direct sales chanel which has always been their route to market so far. The form factor of this device apears to imply HP is 'squaring' up directly with Blackberry hardware - now that could be interesting! If the device is well thought out (and it looks good from the pics), the price point is right then competition moves to direct software comparission between Blackberry and Windows Mobile, and if I were an enterprise customer I know where I would put my money :)
